Frequently Asked Questions

Q. We've tried tutoring at a tutoring center, but we just don't think
that was the right fit for our child. How is A-Team Tutoring
different?
A. A-Team Tutoring is different in many ways. First of all, there
are no costly assessment fees, like the ones you pay at learning
centers. Secondly, most learning centers will guarantee that
your child will improve by a letter grade "or your money back."
However, that improvement is based only on the curriculum or
pre-determined program used by the learning center, which may
vary from the curriculum actually being taught in your child's
classroom. At A-Team Tutoring, we tutor from your child's
curriculum, using their books, worksheets and homework. We
also do not require that you sign a contract binding you for a
specific amount of time or money. Finally, we are different
because we come to you, instead of having to inconvenience
your entire family to bring your child to a learning center.
Q. We have a few children and several pets. Our home and our
schedule are both very busy. Are there any alternatives to
tutoring our child in our home?
A. Absolutely. If it turns out that tutoring in your home is not the
most convenient, sessions can be held at a pre-determined
location, such as the public library. However, whether the
tutoring takes place in the home or in a public place, a parent or
guardian over the age of 21 must be present for the duration of
each tutoring session.
Q. I have no guarantee that your tutoring will really work, so I
don't want to sign any long-term contracts. Can you work with us
without a contract?
A. Yes. To make the greatest impact, an average of two
sessions per week for at least two months is recommended.
But there is no contract binding you for a certain length of time.
Q. Lots of people claim to be tutors. How can we be sure that the
tutor you pair with my child is really qualified to help?
A. All of our tutors are full-time teachers, retired teachers or
educators with experience tutoring in a certain area of expertise.
Each has successfully completed an extensive interview
process, work experience background check and passed a
thorough criminal background check.
Q. What if my child or I do not like the tutor that you have paired
us with?
A. If, at any time, you or your child do not agree that the tutor is a
good match, we will pair you with another tutor.
Q. I have more than one child who needs tutoring and it would
be best for us to have all of them tutored together. Is that
possible?
A. All of our tutoring is done on a one-on-one basis. Everyone
has different needs and learns in different ways. In order for your
child to receive the greatest benefit from our tutoring services,
we do not do small group tutoring. We do offer a discount for
families with more than one student enrolled at a time.
Q. What do we need to do to get started?
A. The easiest way to get started is to simply give us a call at
803-802-5220 After a brief discussion of your child's needs, we
will set up a complimentary in-home consultation. This informal
meeting will include you, your child and a representative from
A-Team Tutoring.
